Must see video!

I love watching feel good video's and seeing someone do something that makes other people have a second look at something they would normally just walk right by. Steve Wheen, takes random holes, and concrete cracks in East London and turns them into little gardens :) I love this idea and I love watching all the people get pleasantly surprised by the little gardens. Once again a reminder of how important it is to keep art and nature in our lives.

So go out there and do something fun and creative that makes you happy and makes other people around you happy too!

Check it out here...

Artist Statement

My artistry rests upon a tripod of relationships between sound, digital art, and theory.  On one hand, my artistic work is about social and cultural critique, while on the other hand, it is about aesthetic expression, often targeting transgressive thinking.  My digital art and sound design are interconnected, enhancing the sensory experience through sight and sound interaction. The theoretical aspects also play a critical role in my artistry as I often try to express non-rational thinking through symbolic communication. Through my artistry, I allow thoughts to delimit themselves and boundaries to be crossed.  Much of my work expresses the beauty of irrationality and paradoxical concepts, while promoting alterity in thoughts and feelings. My artistic works are often characterized as simultaneously conceptual and non-conceptual, rational and irrational, logical and illogical. The paradox present in dichotomous concepts often becomes a foundation and inspiration for my work. Because I am a musician/composer as well as a digital artist, moving artwork is a medium that allows me to tap into a different communication channel.  Through moving art, I like to explore the actual or potential dichotomy. Between what is actually seen and potentially captured, there lies a third space; in that space, each viewer/listener takes away a snapshot of “life” from the artwork. Such moments invoke a life of their own. Therefore, although I often have a theoretical description for my moving art, I also like to leave room for a multiplicity of subjectivities.

Artist Statement

The goal of art(or at least the one held by this painter) is  the revelation of truth. An alleviation of the mysteries of existence. I find truth in the layers of oil on my canvases, in the images that are created on them and other peoples tongue and minds as they tell me what they see. On some crossroads between beauty and horror, naked reality and metaphysics , the past and the future and the ever present now I make pictures to reveal. To you as much as me.

Artist Statement

Goga Kuvt’s oil and acrylic paintings on canvas depict with marvelous precision and bold coloration the conscious mark making and primal longings of the artist immersed in the contemporary global marketplace of urbanity. Adopting a hybrid human-animal archetype as the dominant symbology of his work, the paintings suggest a return to ‘basic instincts’ as the fusing of Man’s ancient and contemporary impulses, drives and desires. Female forms dominate the field, expressing Kuvt’s deep reverence and fascination with the formal and metaphysical qualities of the feminine mystique.
A second-generation artist, Kuvt’s expressive language of color and fondness for the immediacy of flat surfaces alludes to work of the old masters, particularly Matisse.  At the same time, Kuvt’s use of opaque color and unique approach to ‘flat’ space are bipartisan in nature. A style largely developed after his move to America from his native country Georgia in 2008, Kuvt’s use of flush, simple colors critique the perceptive visual domain of American commercialism. On a fundamental level, Goga Kuvt’s works are the product of the artist’s filtering of quotidian daily life, his paintings a quotient of the here and now of visual matter be it advertising, signage or nature. His works breathe fresh life into the architectonic forms of the perpetual flux of a crowded municipal terrain.
Adopting the urban foliage of New York City as existential fodder, the work lends itself to a distinctly Pop sensibility. Kuvt’s figurative and abstract renderings of form suggest a mythology of daily life that easily transfers into the accessible language of mass production and branding. As the expression of Kuvt’s own experimental visual philosophy, the symbols aren’t dogma but rather ‘open’ associative forms that speak to the language of painting, iconography of Ancient civilizations as well as the rugged materiality of urban daily life. Kuvt’s collection of God and Goddess totems are not distant icons but rather, visual prototypes for the creative evolution of man nodding toward a future in which we are all creators and conscious actors in Life.

Great art, great artists, yummy wine :)

By the way...

Yesterday I went to Central Cafe, in Bushwick, right in between Troutman and Jefferson Street on Central Avenue. The cutest little coffee shop ever! And I had the most delicious Chai Latte! The inside of the cafe is really cute and comfy, and all the people are very welcoming, then there is also the coolest outdoor space with these amazing trees, so pleasant to sit and read or just go and chat with somebody! Definitely a must go to place in Bushwick!
